We did hope that a new submission would be made to the SITA Trust to try and obtain a grant to get the lake cleaned out but for various reasons the City Council was not able to do this. At the end of 2015 the club set up a Facebook campaign to raise awareness of the issue and to obtain emails of support from park users and local residents. This was quite succesfull and resulted in a total of 43 suitable emails being recieved which were converted into a PDF document and passed on to the council for inclusion in the next bid, due to be submitted early in 2016. It is thought that one of the reasons we failed last time was that we were not able to demonstrate local support for the bid. The PDF document should address that point.

An unexpected result of the campaign was that a couple of local residents offered to assist the club in doing a bit of basic lake cleaning early in the new year (2016). This most welcome offer has been gladly accepted.

The growing success of the "Tyne and Wear 2 Day regatta" weekend continued in 2015 with a record 100 entries in the straight running events during this years event. This regatta is now the premier straight running regatta in the whole of the UK. The club was founded back in 1910 with straight running boats and I'm sure the original founding members would be pleased to see that 100 years later the sport is alive and well.
